Shoes and Yarn

This blog is dedicated to my search for the perfect shoes and the perfect yarn.

Robbers.

My car was broken into. The real joke was on them though, because I have a convertible and I frequently leave my car open, so there wasn't anything in it except for sunscreen, ponytail holders and insurance paperwork. Realistically, I would never have known if they had put the paperwork back in the glove compartment... They didn't break anything, they either jimmied the passenger door open or I accidently forgot to lock it. Such is life I guess. I'm kind of just of laughing about it because realistically there isn't anything else to do...

UFO Saturday

I finally got around to working on my spare bedroom today. I made the bed. Hung a picture(more to come) and put my yarn into some sort of order. I also found my swift which had been MIA since the move. Let me tell you, going through that yarn got me itching to start a new project. I looked though so much of it and it was so hard not to start several mor projects, so I consoled myself by pulling the Lady Eleanor shawl out of hiding...
and the Vintage Velvet scarf too.
Now that it's finally getting cool I can even think about knitting wool. I also gave in and pulled out the Brooks Farm Duet for a Clapotis, but I'm not going to start it until I finish my neice's cardigan, so instead of hauling the last 9 boxes to the dumpster this evening, I knit half of sleeve one of Lindsay's Cardigan.
So far so good, except I'm still afraid I'm going to run out of yarn. Tomorrow I'm going to work and then going to my brother's house. Ughhh to the first and Yeah to the second.

*Sob*

Sniff! Sob!
Yes it's a hole in my shawl. Ugghhh!!!! I was showing it to someone at work today and I noticed the hole. I nearly had a heart attack. I have to search through my yarn leftovers to see if I have any of that left over to patch it. :-(

In other news, I finished the body of my neice's striped cardigan. On to the sleeves. I'm still praying that I have enough of the lt. pink and purple to finish it all. Keeping my fingers crossed...

So, tonight I went to the Reston Stitch n Bitch meetup. It was nice. Everyone was so nice and friendly. I'll definitely go back. I missed knitting with people on a weekly basis. It was their "off week" meet up, but there were still like 12 people there. Several people were like me and it was there first time there. Yeah me! I officially have a personal life outside of work.

I finished the 3rd repeat on Miss Lambert's shawl and started my second Trekking sock.

And finally, there was knitting

So, finally my life is starting to get back to normal. I hauled a ton of boxes out yesterday. I still have about 9 left. 4 of the big hanging clothes boxes and then 4 painting boxes that I unpacked today. Yes, unpacked and hung up art work. Yes, you can all fall over dead. There were only ever artwork hung in my bathroom in Kansas City. Here, I have 5 pictures and 2 shelves. Whoo hoo!

I was up at the crack of dawn this morning. I got up at 6:30 and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and started knitting. First I worked on my neices cardigan for awhile...
...until I almost went crazy from the plain garter stitch. I have 1.5 more stripe pattern repeats on the back before I can move on to finish the right front side.

Then I moved on and finished the first of the Trekking socks I started my last night in KC.
I love, love, love these socks. It's a 3x1 rib and then at the cuff, I did a 1x1 rib (ala Johanna). Yeah for Trekking XXL!

First tour of DC

So, I went exploring today. I managed to not only get to my house, but back again, which is the really exciting part. :-)

I went to Alexandria today, to go to Knit Happens. Cute knit store with lots of good stuff. Yeah!!!

I love Alexandria. I love the old row houses. It's so cute.
More row houses. I looked around a lot. Alexandria has a great kind of "old town" section with lots of shops. Knit Happens, bookstores, Starbucks. Lots of great places. I walked around for about 3 hours wandering in and out of stores. I did buy some yarn.
Some Debbie Bliss yarn for some mittens for my neice and some Pony needles size 1.5. I couldn't find any 00 needles, but 1.5 are hard to find and I've never tried the Pony needles, so I'll let you know what I think.

All in all it was a good day. I also hauled another 20 empty boxes out of the house. I'm down to 4 boxes (the huge hangling clothes boxes). I can't wait to get rid of them all. Tomorrow it's picture hanging day.

New knowledge

Today I learned that if I leave work at 8pm I can make it home in less than 15 minutes. Not that I'm advocating that as my new working hours, because quite frankly working 7:45 to 8pm is not how I want to live my life... But today, it just sort of happened. I was talking to someone. I needed to get something done for a meeting tomorrow morning.

I'm working on my Trekking sock again. It's in the boring stage between turning the heel and the top of the sock, so no new pictures. I'm still absolutely in love with it though. I can't wait until it's finished.

I can't wait for the weekend. I'm going to put up my paintings in the apartment. Yeah!!!

I rock! I had a good day at work. Yeah Me! Everyone told me I rock! I love the people I work with. :-)

My car is officially fixed. The engine light went on late last week and $1100 later, it's now working with no scary engine light and since they put on new brakes, it passes inspection. Ugghh!!! Then when the guy brought me my car he told me I needed something on my door fixed because it makes a clicking noise and my automatic window is making funny noises and needs to have something replaced so one day it doesn't get stuck down or up. Ughhhh!!!! I hate car maintenance. Of course, it's 7 years old and has almost 100,000 miles on it, so I really can't complain, but I am anyway.

Today I got out of the house. I went with my brother and SIL to the Winefest. A fun day was had by all. It was so beautiful out today. Lots of wine was imbibed by all. My brother was particularly fond of one call ed "Kiss the Devil" which was made from different chili peppers. Thankfully they were closing down at that point because I don't think he could have done a good job tasting after that point. My favorites, although I didn't purchase them, were the Sauvignon Blanc and the Chardonnay from the Doukenie Winery.

Other than that. I came home and finished another repeat of Mrs. Lambert's shawl. Not that it's saying much, because it's only the second finished repeat.

I had all these great plans for knitting today and I didn't knit a stitch. What did I do you ask? I ran errands this morning, did laundry and I finished unpacking. Yep. All the boxes are officially unpacked. The books are on the shelves. Stuff has been put in the storage closet. I'm not saying everything is in it's place and I don't need to haul a million boxes to the dumpster, but the boxes are empty and broken down. I still need to put all my pictures on the wall, as well.

I did something else momentous today. I actually installed a wireless router in my apartment. Hurrah!!!! Yeah me, because I'm not a technologically advanced person when it comes to the hardware part. so, no more wires dragging accross the floor. Everything is nice and neat. Yeah!!!

Tomorrow I have some work to do and then I'm going to wine fest with my brother and I'll probably work some more on trying to get more things put into place in the apartment. I already see things I need to buy. A second end table. A light for the cornerbecause it's a little dark. I think it will look good soon.

I almost forgot the best part of the day. When I came home from shopping there was a fed ex saturday delivery sitting by my front door. It was cards from my co-workers in KC and gift card wishing me well. How wonderful was that??? I got all teary. I love where I work.

3rd times a charm...

So, after 2 tries, I decided that the beautiful red Malabrigo laceweight did not want to be the Alpine Lace Scarf from Victorian Lace Today, so it went back the the frog pound tonight.

So, tonight, I debut the new project with the Malabrigo...Miss Lambert's Shetland from Victorian Lace today. It's working much better now.
Pattern is very easy to memorize. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this works out better.

Finally, the knitting gods seem to be smiling me again finally.

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

I was all excited I thought I was going to have pictures of my new project to show. I frogged the red Malabrigo laceweight and restarted it. Knit 8 interminable rows of garter stitch on size 4 needles in laceweight...you all understand I know. Started on the lace pattern only to discover that somehow or another...I had an additional 6 stitches. Not 1, not 2, but 6. UGHHH!!!!! Needless to say, it's going to the frog pound again. UGHHH!!!!

PS. Job is going well so far. Yippeee.

I survived my first day...

...and those of you who know me very well will be happy to know that I made it to work and home without getting lost. I even thought I took a wrong turn, it actually ended up connecting with the street I needed in the first place. Woo Hoo!

I spent most of my day reading information and trying to figure out what was going on, but all in all, the worst part was getting up at 6am after being on vacation for two weeks. :-)

The best part, I've convinced my co-workers that they all need to learn to knit as well. :-0 I'm so bad...

So I think it's time to resume regular blogging. There are still about 10 boxes to be unpacked. Mostly books. Lots of stuff that still needs to find a home though. I'm working on it little by little.

I actually have to go back to work tomorrow. I packed up my new computer bag with all the stuff for my first day (thanks Carmen!) and I'm ready to go.
It's going to be hard to get up at 6am again and even harder to forgo my nap that I got accustomed to when I was so sick last week.

Also, it's time to return to knit blogging. Not that there has been much of that going on...but I did finish half a sock while I was off.
The yarn is Trekking XXL on size 0 needles. My preferred sock pattern with a 3x1 ribbing. I love how the yarn does the graduated changes. Woo Hoo!

So, I somehow ended up with a sinus infection since coming here. And then it got worse and it turned into a chest cold. What's that have to do with anything you ask? It's put a serious crimp in unpacking because I also have had a migraine headache for the past two days. I took yesterday off because I was exhausted and I felt like crap. Today I felt better, but could only unpack in short bouts of time. So my day has gone something like this. Unpack a few items. Coughing fit. Hold head because migraine doesn't like the coughing at all. Wait till it calms down again. Unpack a few more items. Coughing fit. Hold head. Sit down until not coughing anymore. Ughhh!!! Next time, I'm having the movers unpack me. Good lord all the paper that they wrap crap in. 2 boxes ended up in 5 trash bags filled with paper. I even sat on them to flatten them so I could fit in more paper.

I did finally make it to the grocery store yesterday and did a target run this morning. So, I finally have food in the house. Yeah!! The grocery store was an adventure. You couldn't take your cart into the parking lot. You had to leave your cart at the curb and then drive up and load your groceries. It was weird. I think I'll try another store next time I go though.

I thought with 2 weeks off I would get a lot of knitting done. I've knit about half a sock. Not too much needless to say. Well, maybe next weekend after I get some unpacking finished.

I'm home

Yes, that's right, I'm in my apartment. My household goods arrived late yesterday afternoon. I've been through 43 boxes so far and have about 20 left. Mostly books and kitchen stuff. I have these kitchen cabinets that were built for giants and I can't reach the top shelves, so I need to go buy a step stool at Target. Cable, phone and internet were hooked up today. Yippee, so I'm officially back online.

The only room that currently looks good is my bedroom. There are no boxes, no trash and everything is put away. Yeah! Next time I move, I'm getting rid of so much more before I move. I'm glad I chose to move to a two bedroom because there's no way I could have moved all this stuff into a one bedroom.

Tomorrow I'm actually going to go to the grocery store. Hurrah! Sadly the only thing in my refrigerator is 3 diet cokes. It looks weird.

Anyway, more news to come as I recover from unpacking and finish putting stuff away.

Still homeless...

Still in DC. It looks as if my stuff will actually be delivered on Tuesday in a stunning reversal of fortune. Hurrah!!!! I've been spending my time hanging out with my brother and his wife and, of couse, my beautiful nephew. He's so funny. He goos and "talks" and loves his jumparoo.

There will more than likely be no blogging until I can get cable/internet hooked up later next week, but I'll (fingers crossed) be setting up my apartment. Yeah!
