Another episode of "If I didn't have bad luck, I would have no luck at all..."

So, I got a call this morning about 8:30. I thought they were calling to tell me they were going to deliver my household goods. Ummm. Exact opposite instead. My driver had a seizure and is in the hospital (and I sincerely hope he's okay and it's nothing serious), but thinking purely of myself, my stuff won't be here until next weekend. Ughhh!!!!!

On a good note, at least I packed some work clothes so I can go to work next week if my stuff doesn't arrive. Ughhh!!! So much for a week to get my house put together. Ughhh!!

I'm here!

Okay. I'm in DC. I made it here safely without even making a wrong turn. I've been here about 30 house. I'm currently staying with my brother at the moment while I await my household goods arrival. I've been hanging out with my SIL and my nephew, who is a cutie pie. He's so funny. I'm totally in love. He's not going to be spoiled at all I tell you.

I have the keys to my apartment and have been to visit it and drop of part of the contents of my car. Keeping my fingers crossed that my household goods arrive sometime in the very near future. I was hoping for tomorrow, but apparently, that was just wishful thinking...

Regular blogging will resume after I receive my household goods and get internet service hooked up.

Tonight is my last day in my apartment. :-( So far, the people who bought my washer and dryer came by and took them off and I've thrown away 6 bags of trash. I still have 2 more going that will need to be thrown out tomorrow am.

Today was my last day in the office. I managed to cry only once when someone told me how much I had helped her grow and become independent in her role and that she really values me as a coach. Sniff. Unfortunately, I fogot my power cord to my computer, so I'm going to have it sent to my brother's house to meet me there. Ughhh! I can't believe I forgot that of all things.

Other than that, movers come bright and early tomorrow morning at 8am and I'm just about ready. I need to disconnect my tv later and unplug my computer and stow it away where it will not be packed... I'm storing everything that I don't want packed in the back bathroom. I also started cleaning a little bit. I did one bathroom, except for the floor and cleaned all the window sills off. I thought that was enough for tonight...

So, probably no blogging until Saturday night when I'm at my parents house.

3 days left in KC. Went to Jack Stack BBQ for lunch with a former co-worker here. Love, love, love their baked beans. I don't even really like baked beans, but these are truly amazing. Tonight I spent my last Tuesday night with the Tuesday night knitters. Sniff! I love how much we laugh and joke. It's never boring.

Work continues. It's almost as if I'm not leaving. They still expect me to do a normal amount of work and clean out two offices. Imagine that?

I'm still working on cleaning out my apartment. I'm giving my computer chair away. My washer and dryer are going away on Thursday night. I started packing some clothes to wear while traveling.

Tomorrow night, going to meet the girls at Misknits. Should be fun.

A big huge thanks to all my knitty friends here in KC. They threw me a going away party today. Carmen offered up her house and cooked us an absolutely fabulous meal of chicken and Salmon, asparagus, backed potatoes, salad, fruit salad, chocolate cake and ice cream. And of course, they got me some fabulous gifts. Playing on my love of yarn, shoes, Jane Austen, and books.
Look at these cute chocolate covered oreos...Yes, that's shoes and purses. They taste good too. Yummm!
Also from Carmen was a new bag (love it!!), 2 shoe pictures and the Jane Austen love. Joanna and Christine subscribed to the theory that yarn is always a good gift now matter what the occasion and I have to agree that the Koigu and Carfty in a good way yarn are fabulous! Thank you to everyone! I'm going to miss you so much!!!! Thanks also to Stacy, Johanna and Teri who spent the day, knitted and got sock pictures taken. Your friendship has meant so much to me and I can't believe I won't be knitting with you guys every tuesday any more. :-(

So, a week from tomorrow (Friday) the movers will be coming to my house to pack up my apartment and haul all my stuff off to DC. I'm getting really excited and really tired of going through things. I've been cleaning stuff out of my apartment and dumping it and I've also been cleaning out my office at work. There was stuff in my office from 1998 and I didn't even work for them then. I've only been here 18 months. Ugghh. Lots of dusty, dusty stuff in both places.

Other than that, been knitting with the girls and working late trying to finish stuff off. I finished one Tofutsies sock and I'd put up pictures if I could figure out what I did with my carmera after coming back from Stitches. On a good note, I found the set of 4" addi double points in size 0 that I bought at Stitches. I thought I might have thrown them away in the cleaning frenzy, but I'd stuck them in an inner pocket in my luggage (yes, the same one that ate a hand knit sock a couple of years ago, which is why I knew to check there).

This weekend will be all about hauling bags to the garbage and continuing to clean and quite possible a nap. Yeah! On Sunday, the knitter girls and I are having a going away party. Yippeee!

The Redux: Stitches Midwest and Sockapalooza

Okay. Here it is. The full haul minus a pair of addi double points I can't seem to locate at the moment...which worries me because it looks sort of like a hurricane went through my house...

The final haul:

  • 2 skeins of Interlacements Rick Rack II - I love my feather and fan scarf so much, I bought more of it. One is green tones and one is very neutral colors.
  • 2 skeins of Tess' Designer Super Sock & Baby Yarn - in semi-solids since I have way too much variegated sock yarn already (Magenta & Green). I think I might like this better than STR (Sacreligious, I know!)
  • 1 skeins of the TOFUtsies Limited Edition August sock yarn
  • 4 skeins of Tess' Designer Merino laceweight yarn - 2 in Magenta & 2 in blues
  • 2 skeins of Brooks farm Duet. Red tones. I've been coveting it forever. I should have bought 2 more and made a sweater...there's always next year...
  • 2 skeins of sock yarn from Handpainted Yarn in Wentzville, MO with tweed slubs in it. One reminds me of the sky at dusk and the other is all jewel tones. The colorways are all named after Operas - Rigoletto & Tanhauser
  • 1 Sheep to sock kit from Blue Moon Fiber arts
  • 1 skeins Socks that Rock medium weight in Beryl (green)
  • 2 skeins of Silkie Socks that Rock in Little Bunny Foo Foo and Algae
  • 4 skeins of Melody Sock yarn - cool very graduated color changes.
  • 2 skeins of bamboo laceweight from Habu Textiles in a light green.
  • 1 skeins Alpaca in natural browns from Pajolo Alpacas. We love them!
  • 2 skeins of Koigu KPPPM (yes, it's an obsession)
  • 4oz Columbia Top roving
  • 3 patterns - 2 shawls and a sweater
  • 2 pairs of Hiya Hiya double point needles size 0 and 1.5 - these things are light!
  • 1 pair Addi double points (4 inchers) in size 0

A good time was had by all. Check out Beth, Suzie and Carmen's blogs for more updates.

On to the equally important and totally cool gift from my sockapalooza pal! Woo Hoo! The socks fit and are totally cool. I love them. She also sent some soap, a lavendar pillow and candy. The Bing Cherries in Milk Chocolate are very yummy and as you can see from the picture, already opened. A big Woo Hoo to my sockapalooza pal Tara. She rocks!

How was Stitches Midwest you ask????

Day 1
Day 2
Day 3

Oh the horror...and I bought still more today that I haven't gotten around to photographing...
Details and, finally, my sockapalooza socks tomorrow. I'm exhausted, but a good time was had by all.

Just got home. Leaving for Stitches in 15 hours. I still need to pack and decide for the most part what I'm going to bring...which is always too much...and then I buy too much compounding the problem.... I'm exhausted. Worked 10 hours and then drove 4 hours from St. Louis to KC...but it's worth it because tomorrow I'm going to Stitches!!! There will be no updates until Sunday. I've decided not to take the computer this year. Stupid I know. Oh well.

Woo Hoo! Got my Sockapalooza socks today. Pictures later. I grabbed the mail as I was leaving for St. Louis, opened it really quick and then jumped in the car and drove 253 miles. Thank you Teri! I'd link, but I didn't want to lose my socks so I left them at my apartment in KC. They fit and are very cool! BTW, I did try one of the Chocolate Bing cherries... Yes, I'm that bad. Woo Hoo!

My sockapalooza socks are done, but they won't get in the mail until sometime next week. I'll get into KC tomorrow night late and then have to repack to go to Chicago for Stitches Midwest. Let me know if anyone else out there is going. I'm staying at the Hilton with Carmen, Beth and Suzie.

Wish me luck. I'm presenting at a meeting tomorrow and I'm trying vainly not to strangle one of my co-instructors.

I'm leaving for Stitches Midwest a week from today...and yet somehow, last night, this came home with me....
I was at UFO night at Misknits and I was knitting Carmen brought dinner and then suddenly this was in my hand along with my credit card. It must have been a yarn black out. I just don't understand. The yarn is much brighter orange in person.

I'm leaving for St. Louis for the weekend tomorrow. The Talberts are having the Annual Summer Cold Party. Then my mom is going to come back to KC with me a for a few days for a last visit before I move. Then I'm going back to KC for a meeting on Wednesday and then back to KC to catch my flight for Chicago. Whew!
