It's official...

I'm finally a Kansas resident. Yes, I finally have both a driver's license and license plate. Why yes, that's plate in the singular. I only got one. Weird.

I went to work today and I was going to be in town the whole month, but alas, it was not to be. I have to be in St. Louis for a meeting on Monday so I'm going home to see the family over the weekend. Then I'm going to Atlanta the week after for 3 days and then 2 weeks after that, I'm back in St. Louis for more meetings. Ummm...so much for staying in town for the whole month...

Still no knitting news. I've been thinking about starting the here & there cabled scarf from Scarf Style. I've been wanting to do that for awhile. I have some Pink Queensland Llama Seta that would be good for it.

Well, that's it for me.

The wonder of blocking wires

I love, love, love my blocking wires. I can't believe I've lived without them for so long!!! Doesn't this look fabulous??

Even better after blocking!!! It's now hanging in the closet pending it actually getting cold enough to wear a scarf.

Since I had out the blocking board and I was all into blocking. Look what else I did...

Yep. 24 finished squares are now ready to be sewed together into blocks once I get some plain black sock yarn.

So, with finishing Faina's scarf, I'm once again projectless...so I dragged out the other UFO from long ago, the Flower Basket Shawl

And worked on it too. I need a new project but I'm having this apathy over starting anything new. I have yarn. I have patterns. Nothing is just slapping over the face and saying knit me. I don't know what the problem is...

The Monkey off my back!

Ta Da! After 4 long, long years I've finally finished Faina's scarf. I still
need to fringe and block, but the knitting is done!! It's amazing how fast the last diamond went. I can't believe I didn't finish it earlier. Of course, not having any other projects currently going...has helped matters exponentially.

To celebrate the fact that Faina was finally finished, I purchased some blocking wires and a blocking board so I can properly block the scarf. I've been wanting them for awhile and finally happened accross them in a store today. Yippee!

Hello, my old friend...

Now, all of you who have known me for a long time should quite possibly sit down because this might be a little shocking...

No, still no boyfriend...Darn! I've picked Fainia's Scarf back up. Yes, after

4 long years, I picked it back up I knit 36 rows on it tonight. Pick yourselves off the floor, I'm actually on the decrease section. The end is in sight. Hurrah!! I'm sure you can all see that I'm grasping for projects at this point. Not that Faina's scarf isn't wonderful and beautiful and the Frog Tree Alpaca a wonder to knit with...but for some reason, I'm just not in love with the actual pattern. I think because there isn't a solidly repeating pattern like most lace.

I have decided on a new project. Carmen and I are going to knit Lift & Seperate from Big Girl Knits. Sadly, I'm going to have to order new yarn for it because nothing in my stash works for it (head really hanging in shame here...). I'm also thinking about starting a lace shawl. Yes, crazy is my middle name...and I've been trying to decide which sock yarn to knit up next...but I'm going to finish Faina's scarf first and maybe even the Flower Basket Shawl started a year ago. Gee, what will life be like without any long term UFOs??? Maybe I'll leave the Flower Basket Shawl alone for now...

The world is coming to an end...

Yes, I finished a pair of socks tonight...which means you'd better sit down for this... I can hardly type it... I only have 1 project in process and...(I can hear the silent gasp)...I only have the picot cuff left on it. Aghhh!!!!! I need a new project and fast. What am I going to do??? What am I going to knit??? I don't know what to do with myself!!!

I'd post a picture of the finished socks, but blogger is being stupid and keeps locking up when trying to post my sock picture, so maybe tomorrow when it will be joined by my other pair and then...(sob...) I'll have no projects on the needles...

I'm Home!!!

I'm back from Vegas and although I love Vegas, it's good to be home again. Boy are my feet tired. I sure got my exercise in Vegas. We pushed my mom all over Vegas in her wheelchair. We saw almost all the casinos...lost money in most of them too. For the record, I did end up on the losing end, but if I hadn't had a string of good luck on Sunday, it would have been worse... We saw two shows. "O" at the Bellagio, which, quite frankly redesigns your view of wonderful as only a Cirque du Soleil show can. We also saw Mama Mia at Mandalay Bay, which was wonderful as well. We ate at many good restaurants. The highlight of the whole trip though, Carmen you will really appreciate this, was when this man does a double take (literally - I thought that was only a movie thing) and then procedes to follow me halfway accross the casino telling me "You're cute...No, I'm really really serious, You're cute... I'm not lying...You're really cute." Now, I'd been walking around Vegas all day in the same clothes I traveled in, outside pushing a wheelchair around in 30mph wind gusts which blew up dust from nearby constructions sites and sweating because it was like 90 degrees and I could feel the grit all over my body...so you can just imagine how cute I felt at that moment. To that man, whoever you are, we may have laughed, but you truly made the weekend. :-)

I took today off to recover from my vacation and I could probably use a few extra days, but I peeked at my e-mail and it's very scary. Tomorrow is going to be a busy, busy day.

I'm kind of feeling that post vacation let down. I need to plan a new vacation to look forward to...anyone up for Italy in the spring???

Ready to go

I'm all packed and ready to go. Vegas here I come!!

I'm now wondering about my packing decisions. I've overpacked... I'm bringing 10 shirts for 4 days. 4 pairs of shoes... I'm thinking I might need to pare some of that down as I sit here.

Never fear, I packed the yarn first. I'm bringing some yarn to start a new pair of socks...yes, that will now be 3 pairs in process, don't nag! I'm thinking I could exchange 2 shirts for my almost finished socks and come out ahead...

I'm insane, I know. Well, I'm leaving for the airport at 6:45 tomorrow am, so you won't hear from me sometime on Monday. Pictures of Vegas to come!

Sadness

The perfect green yarn did not work for the sweater. The guage is all off and I'm just not into doing the math right now...so, I will wait for inspiration to strike again. I'm sure there's another project it will work for, never fear.

Meanwhile, no packing this evening. I was working on a last minute project I needed to finish for work. I did manage to find my opera glasses to take with us for the shows, so at least I accomplished something.

Countdown to Vegas: 1 DAY BABY!!!!

And then it happened...

So, yesterday I was lamenting that I finished all my big projects and wasn't inspired by any of the other projects to start. There was some general malaise and wishy washiness going on. I wanted to start something new, but the only thing inspiring me was socks (how sad is that?).

But a bolt out of the blue and Inspiration has struck today in the form of the new Knitty!! Hurrah!! This is the first time in awhile that I have been in love with a knitty. 3 sweaters and 2 pair of socks. Not too bad. Viveka is love, love, love, but I don't have the yarn for it now. Serrano, also love, but I don't I have the right yarn for it either. Ivy...it's all love baby and I think I might just have the yarn for it...so what's a girl to do?? Haul out the old swift and ball winder, of course! Get out that fabulous, fabulous Merino/cashmere blend secured at Stitches Midwest that came without a stitch guage and pray. On a side note, isn't this lucious green color good for a sweater called Ivy...

And then, somehow this happened...
(I know all of you all are here with me praying as we knit a guage swatch (Yes, Gwen is knitting a guage swatch. Will wonder's never cease. This is two in a row).

Countdown to Vegas: 2 days!!!!! I actually started putting stuff in my bag this evening. Kind of throwing it in just to make sure I don't forget stuff when I think of it...I'm sad, I know.

Ta Da

I had a very busy weekend. Sometimes I think getting prepared to go on vacation could possibly be more expensive than going on vacation. New pants, new shoes, haircut, pedicure, books to read, etc. Maybe that's just me....

I do have good news though!!! I finished my shawl. Bet you can't believe I actually finished it before I left for Vegas. It only took about a year to finish it. I love, love, love it.

I'm now in kind of a weird place. I just finished 2 big projects. I have my perpetual UFOS (Faina and FBS) on needles and 2 pairs of socks, but I'm kind of wishy washy about what to start next. Nothing's really grabbing at me, in spite of the fact that I have all this new yarn from Stitches. What to do, what to do???

The only thing I currently want to start is a new pair of socks. Check out this Trekking I won in a contest over at Quiddity.

I love, love, love Trekking and I love the fun colors in this yarn. I'm currently resisting, because, as I've mentioned, I already have 2 pairs of socks on needles. I can't just have socks to work on. I've got to start another project. Ughhh!!!

Countdown to Vegas - 4 days Baby. 4 days!!

Friday, September 08, 2006

We're on the official countdown to Vegas now baby. 5 more days until I leave. 3 more days of work...although I brought about 4-5 hours of work home with me today that needs to be done this weekend. Yuck!

My plans for the weekend so far include finding a purse to take to Vegas, going shoe shopping, laundry and throw a little knitting in their for good measure.

Why is it every time I go home to St. Louis, I come back with way more than I left with. This time, I came back with 2 new shirts, new capri pants, 3 pairs of shoes and some hand soap that I bought while out shopping. In addition to that, I brought back some silverware, a frying pan and a roaster which I inherited.

I had a good time. Spent some quality time with my family and my neice. Didn't get a whole heck of a lot of knitting done, for all the yarn I packed, but it was fun. We've determined that the Bombshell sweater does need some extra length, so I'll be pulling that out sometime this week.

Countdown to Vegas: 10 days!!!! Yippeee!!!
