She's back...

Yes, ladies and gentleman...the knitter has returned! I sat on my couch this evening surrounded by all of the knitting projects I've started lately. Socks, scarves, hats, shawls...Yes, I'm definitely back.

I'm absolutely obsessed with the Vintage Velvet Scarf from Scarf Style. I
have been knitting at least a half a skein each evening. I'm forcing myself to work on other project...because...well they're x-mas presents and they have a deadline... I have a feeling this scarf will probably be done by next weekend though at the rate I'm going on it. Just in time for it to get cold enough to wear my winter coat with the brown fur that matches this scarf. Yes, method to my madness...

Speaking of x-mas knitting projects. I'm actually going to finish my knitting projects this year. Unlike years past, as it got closer and closer to x-mas I would decide that certain people just didn't need knitted gifts this year...it could wait for their birthday or next year... But not this year. With 7 weeks left, I just have a few half finished project that will be easily finished. Hurrah!!

In honor of my foresigtedness this year in starting all my x-mas gifts early and the fact that the end is in sight...I'm going to have a contest. Leave me a comment before Friday, November 15th at midnight and let me know what you're knitting for holiday gifts and whether or not you think you'll finish by the date of the holiday event where you'll be giving the gift. A randomly picked winner will win this wonderful, beautiful skein of Tess' Super Sock Yarn...which is heaven to knit with...and maybe some other assorted goodies.

I'm not doing a lot of holiday knitting this year, but I did knit a pair of socks for my sister's birthday. They're in the mail cuz her birthday is Friday.

I'm also planning to knit my mom handwarmers out of my handspun.

My other sister has requested an elephant... we'll see if I try that one.

Oh, an then there's the fun fur afghan for my friend - I'd better get cracking on that one!

I'm trying to resist doing any holiday knitting... but my SIL could really use another pair of handknit socks....

Since Thanksgiving is a holiday, I think this counts. I'm knitting washcloths for my future god child and will be giving them to my SIL the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I have 3 finished and that could be enough if I don't get to any more. Other projects include a sweater for the god child for X-mas - maybe. I also have a scarf for a co-worker that I should really finish before x-mas. I'm in the process of frogging that, so I'm not sure it will get finished. Why? Because I'm obsessed with socks lately. I knit my first pair a couple weeks ago and just started another pair. So, you see, that yarn would be perfect for me. ;-)

Congrats on your foresight!! Hope it works for you!!

Wow lots of gift-knitting in the blogosphere right now.

Have to admit, I'm not gift-knitting this year. Allow me to explain - last year, I knit for several friends and I haven't seen the sweaters on any of them. Not once. Hmm... I did knit a poncho for my niece and she loves it. I would knit again for her if she wants.

Hope everyone finishes their projects in time to enjoy Christmas / Channukah.

Hi. Going to try to knit a shawl to my mother, but am not sure if I'll finish it on time.

The skein looks wonderful (I hope I win ;) )

Well I am gift knitting this year--but only small things. I have 4 pairs of Fetching to make and a few pairs of socks and some Knucks. Trying to keep it simple.

only thing I'll be knitting is a pair of socks for my mil. I'm going to have a few weeks of house to myself so I don't see it being a big problem.

Gift knitting this year: mittens/gloves - 2 man sized, 2 woman sized, 2 kids sized, something for the 1 yo nephew, and possibly socks for dh. two sets of mittens are done. If I stay focused, I think I can get all but dh's socks done ontime.

I'm knitting socks for each member of my Aunt's family. I'm working on Pairs #2 and #3 out of 5 right now. I'm also knitting a secret gift that will be felted; that's halfway done. I don't feel rushed (yet) and am fairly certain I will finish these in time. : )

YAY for you! As for me, I'm doing a bit less knitting for Christmas gifts this year than usual. Nearly had a meltdown last year knitting for 10 nieces and nephews, 1 great nephew, Mom, Dad, StepDad, StepMom!
Here's my much more manageable list for this year:

    completed:
    Sweater for 2 1/2 y/o great nephewSweater for 1 y/o great niece
Sweater for 3 m/o great niece
    NeckWarmer for Dad
    Socks for StepDad

    To do:
    Scarf or socks for Mom
    Scarf for Step-mother
    Socks for Dad
    Neckwarmer for Hubby
Christmas Stockings for nephew's family (4).

Will I finish? I believe I will (I hope so anyway!)

I know that I've completed bunches of holiday knitting, but there's still a looming list I can't look at without a panic attack. You are my new inspiration! :)

    PICK ME!

uh? Let's see. Do the gifts HAVE to be knitted? Can they be knitting related? Like project bags, stitch markers, knitting totes, etc?

I'm going to make some washclothes, socks, hats, gloves, scarves.

    I want to play!
I have FINISHED a hat, three felted bags, a pair of fingerless mittens and a clutch.
I STILL HAVE to knit: Two more pairs of fingerless mittens, two hats, one felted bag and a SWEATER.

Do I think I will make it? YES!! I sure hope so!

I've started a stole for my mom. It's a table runner pattern in open lace cable by Norah Gaughn from an old Knitters. Probably won't finish it.

I want to do branching out for dad's SO. Probably will finish that.

Fetching...right now a set for me, but they are quick and fun and I have lots in the stash, so somebody will get some of these. Will finish them.

A sweater for DH. Not sure if it'll be done for xmas or his late jan bd (haven't started yet).

Vague plans for fiber trends felted clog slippers, not sure who for, but I have yarn and pattern. Should finish in time.

I'm knitting no Christmas presents at all. Not one. I had a bad bout of tendonitis earlier in the fall, and it forced me to reevaluate my knitting habits. So--yes, I'll be done on time. :-)

Let's see....I'm knitting five pairs of socks, two scarves, a neckwarmer, a panta, a log cabin blanket, trying to finish a sweater, and seven sets of dishcloths and ornaments. Whew!
Good luck getting your projects done - I kept adding to my list last year. :)

I'm trying to finish up my holiday knitting: a scarf, some wristwarmers. I knit really slowly (plus I work fulltime and go to grad school fulltime) but I think I'll get it done.

I don't usually Holiday knit, because very few people in my family appreciate it. Most are allergic to wool or are really really fashion concsious. I knit something during the year at the wrong size and it becomes a holiday gift. I'm not sure what my Mom is geting this year - last year it was the Fair Isle Jazz scarf from Scarf Style (utterly the wrong scale for me.) Maybe I'll make her a dishcloth.

My sister thought I should keep my backyard leaves scarf, so I did and I love it.

As an excuse to buy yarn during my yarn diet I did buy some Misty Baby Chunky alpaca and make up their rib scarf - the pattern came with the yarn and you can see it on my blog (www.threefates.wordpress.com). I think it will go to my cousin's mother or his wife. Probably his wife.

If and when I knit gifts at all I knit baby clothes. I have no children at the moment and I am occasionally tempted by the children's patterns, so sometimes I knit kid things. If I really get my stuff together, my little cousin might get a pair of mittens.

Congratulations on your holiday knitting progress. I intended on making socks for everyone I know. Back in March this seemed plausible. However, an unexpected move and choosing to give some of the socks away as birthday presents have left the sock stock sorely depleted. So alas, I shall not reach my goal of keeping everyone's toes toasty.

I hate putting myself under that sort of pressure but I do plan to finish my husband's toe up socks for Christmas as I didn't make his birthday :)

Yes, yes, I holiday knit! Why would I go into a mall when I could sit on my couch and knit? I just finished a log cabin blanket for my brother's family today. Others that are finished are convertible gloves and a couple of pairs of socks. More gloves to go, as well as some lace mats for photo frames (From Holiday Handknits), a couple more socks, slippers, a bag for my mom, and um? Who knows! Whatever I can fit in! I'm still under the illusion that I will finish. But its early November.

For the holidays, I had planned to make my youngest DD a tie front sweater (didn't even get the yarn yet), some mittens, a felted backpack and a jumper. I have only cast on the mittens. My oldest wants a vest, and tubey from knitty. She is waaay on the back burner. I graduate from Nursing school on December 15th, so I seriously doubt if I get any holiday knitting done this year. Last year this time, I had hats, scarves, shrugs, ponchos, and mittens done. Maybe next year.

I am not knitting any holiday gifts this year, because traditionally I bake for everyone but my immediate family and I've already had requests to do so again. I hope I get my baking done in time - at least it means I don't have to go shopping.

Congratulations on getting things finished up early!

Haha. I'm trying to finish Backyard Leaves for my sister-in-law and knit a KRistina bag for my sister. I strongly doubt that I will be able to finish a second Kristina bag for my mother. Then there's a scarf for David...

Good thing I already knitted something for my mother-in-law.

I am playing it selfish and not knitting anything for gifts this year. Of course, I say that now, and a week before Christmas I'll decide to make socks for everyone I know (and will NOT finish that deadline).

I might crochet snowflake ornaments for my family members. I've been making ornaments for a couple of years (tiny sweaters one year, Ukranian eggs the next) so this would continue a trend.

I'm terribly jealous that you're so far ahead with your Christmas knitting!

I'm knitting four things. Two will definitely be done by Christmas -- the rolled-brim hat I cast on last night and the scarf I'm going to design for my mother. A pair of socks have been cast on for the best friend, but I'm not sure they'll be done quite by Christmas. And the Knucks for my sweetie might be done by Russian Christmas on Jan. 7, if not actually for Dec. 25.

well. i'm new at knitting. only a month or so in, but i've got the bug BAD! i've got five FOs already. w00t! most are variatons on a square (like a blanket and some purses/bags) but as a result, i'm planning to do all hand knit christmas gifts. i got some DPNs, and have 3 rows ribbed for booties for a friend who recently had a baby. and then, for my mom, who just started a new job, i'm making a tote-y messanger-y bag, in a nice respectable taupe. and for my dad, i'm making him a rasta dred hat. this is funny, because he's bald. for the people i feel like i should give things to, but don't really want to spend lots of time/effort, they're getting 2 dishcloths in basketweave, along with some of my custom created FancyAss bath salts/soaps. (the soap/bath stuff was last years holiday homemade obsession). the boys who fall into that category are getting cellphone/iPod cases/cozies. anyone with a baby is getting a blanket. i'm feeling good about my progress. dishcloths take me about 2 hours.(i'm slow.) the cellphone/iPod cozies take about 45 minutes. and i've got over a month to go. so yeah. i'm feelin the handmade love this christmas, and i think i'll be done. in time to mail them, even, since i'm far away from most of the people i give presents to. :(

I've already knit a pair of socks for my step-dad. I might re-block the lace shawl and give it to my mom. I'm not really planning any more knitting as gifts before the holiday, but I might make something for my BIL or my dad. They would both like socks but I'm not sure if I have the time.

I've promised (eventually) St*rmore's Irish Moss to my brother. I'm not above wrapping up sleeves only.

Will I finish? Miracles happen-- but it's doubtful! :)
